I can’t believe we’re nearing the end of another year. We’ve had some great times together this year. Memorable moments for me include a peek into Nora Vrublevska’s night photography at our Wednesday meeting, our wonderful 40th anniversary party, growing our Career Connect series, and exchanging cookies at the holidays. We had a lot of fun, but what always stays with me and touches my heart are the conversations I’ve had with you over the past year. I treasure hearing your stories, celebrating your joys and successes and listening to your challenges and troubles. Thank you for sharing those moments with me.
We’ve also had some terrible moments during these past weeks, and we are suffering the loss of MIT Police Officer Sean Collier. When these tragedies struck Boston and our campus, I thought immediately about all of you, and hoped and prayed that you were all safe. Receiving messages from many of you around the world inquiring about my safety and grieving for our community has lifted my spirits and given me hope during a time of fear and confusion. I am blessed to have worked with so many wonderful people during my time at MIT.
For those of you who are leaving MIT, I wish you the very best of luck! Please do keep in touch, I’m always curious to hear about the next steps on your journey. We’ll keep sending you this newsletter four times per year, and I’ll hope you will offer your updates from time to time. Just because you’re leaving MIT doesn’t mean you have to leave MIT spouses&partners. You will always be a part of our community. Whether you are staying in Boston or here for a short visit or moving back after many years, you are welcome to fully participate in our activities.
During the summer, we slow down a bit but we will still be on campus. If you are interested in organizing some outings or other activities for the group, please let me know. I’ve already got my calendar marked on June 5th for the annual Scooperbowl ice cream festival – hope you will join me there! And if you are looking for ways to increase your contribution to MIT spouses&partners by volunteering your time, please let me know. There is plenty of work to be done and we’ll try find a task or project that matches your interests, time and skills. We are fortunate to have some many talented volunteers giving their time and expertise to all parts of our organization. We can go far together.
Best regards,
Jennifer
